Riprap/R4 is a large, heavy 8” - 14” stone used for erosion control, streambank stabilization, and shoreline protection. Its substantial size and weight make it well suited for high-energy water applications where smaller stone would shift or wash away, providing a long-lasting, durable solution for managing erosion on slopes, ditches, and waterways.
Applications:
- Streambank Stabilization: Line stream banks and drainage channels with riprap to prevent erosion caused by fast-moving water, protecting property and maintaining the natural course of waterways.
- Shoreline Protection: Armor pond edges, lake frontage, and shorelines against wave action and water-driven erosion that gradually eats away at unprotected banks.
- Slope and Hillside Erosion Control: Place riprap on steep grades and exposed slopes where water runoff would otherwise carry soil away and destabilize the surrounding ground.
- Ditch Lining: Use in roadside ditches and drainage swales to slow water velocity and prevent the channel from eroding over time.
- Outlet Protection: Install at the discharge points of culverts, pipes, and detention basins to dissipate water energy and protect surrounding soil from scour damage.
