Australian Shepherd in a field

Contrary to the popular belief of originating from Australia, the Australian Shepherd

breed was developed in the western US by farmers and ranchers who appreciated their versatility and trainability. They are medium-sized dogs with an average weight of 40-60 lbs and have medium to long hair, with a weather-resistant outer layer, and a soft and dense inner layer or undercoat.

This breed can be black, red, blue merle, or red merle, with a variety of white and tan markings on the face, chest, and legs. They can also have a variety of eye colors ranging from light blue to dark brown, and any combination or shades in between. Heterochromia, or eyes having different colors is also not uncommon.

Aussies are highly energetic and intelligent dogs that love to work. This makes Australian Shepherd puppy in kayakthem very trainable, and they are always keen for an adventure with their humans. Aussies need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation, or they may develop destructive behaviors. They have an average lifespan of 13-15 years and are known to be affectionate, loyal, and protective family and farm companions.
